When to send kids' birthday invitations (and when to ask for RSVPs)
Updated November 2, 2026 · Hooray RSVP
Send kids' birthday invitations about three to four weeks before the party, and ask for replies about one week before. Allow more time around holidays or if families need to travel.
How far ahead should I send the invitation?
Three to four weeks gives families time to check calendars without forgetting. For busy seasons like December or summer, or when grandparents and cousins travel, send it five to six weeks ahead or share a quick save-the-date first.
When should the RSVP date be?
About a week before the party works for most families. It leaves you time to confirm food, favors and seating. If your venue needs a headcount sooner, set the reply date a few days before their deadline.
What should a kids' party invitation include?
Keep it short and clear:
- The child's name and the age they're turning
- Date, start and end time
- Address, plus parking or entry notes
- Whether siblings or parents should stay
- What to wear or bring (swimsuit, outdoor shoes)
- How and by when to reply
How do I follow up with families who haven't replied?
A friendly one-line message a day or two after the reply date is enough: "Hoping you can make it to Mia's party Saturday — let me know either way so we have enough cake!" Many parents simply miss messages, so a nudge is normal.
